World Book Day in Acorn class

We have had such a brilliant day and wanted to share some of work with you. We began with a circle time – a chance for each child to say who they were and tell us a little about their character. We all had fun making guesses at who we were.

Then we studied the book ‘Toys in space’ by Mini Grey (which linked to our Explorers topic). We split into our three key groups and each made a scene from the story – inside a shoe box. We hope you like our ideas:

Jpeg We had the beginning scene, where the toys were left out in the garden for the night – they were all getting scared, so Wonderdoll begins to tell them a story…

Miss Davy’s group had the middle of the story where the toys get sucked up in a spaceship by an alien called ‘Hopcopise’. He’s quite sad though, as he’s lost his teddy – Cuddles.

Mrs Callow’s group had the end of the story where the toys throw a party for the Hoctopise to cheer him up.

Later in the afternoon we all designed our own Hoctopise, here are a selection:

A special well done to Logan Southfield (and Mum) who won the Key Stage One prise for ‘best home made costume’. An excellent Tin Man costume!

Thank you for all of the great costumes, we really had fun celebrating great books and characters today.
