Visit to Houses of Parliament

On Thursday 14th September, Year 6 visited the Houses of Parliament.  When we arrived we were split into two groups and given a tour.  We visited the House of Lords where we got to listen to Lord Sugar speaking about the advertising of gambling.  When we visited to House of Commons we listened to MPs debating about whether an area was the right place to build a new housing development.

We then came back together as a group where we learnt about how democracy works in this country.  We finished up by splitting into groups where we formed 5 new political parties.  We then chose what our key focusses would be, before explaining them to the rest of the class.  We then had to vote to form our new Government.  Sidney became the Education Secretary, Ashley the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Keira the Foreign Secretary and Lili – Ella the new Prime Minister.
